Photoshop Physician Rule #1: First, do no harm!
The hideously scratched up man still looks human, whereas the same cannot be said for the fast correction.

Re: Scratched up Photo

The idea is to recover the pic (face) as much as possible.

Re: Scratched up Photo

I agree with both of you.. when you spend a great amount of time with repairing scratches..you fall off the wagon at the end and need to take a break.. here is new improved somewhat

This is probably what I would do if I were to exclude the clone and patch tool....
I Changed image size from resolution 72 to resolution 300...
copy Background Layer....
magic wand in a scratch area...@ tolerance 100 with contiguous box UN-checked.....
expand selection 6 px....
fill with content-aware.....
copy layer....
on top layer run Polaroid Dust and Scratch removal with the Light Dust Box Checked...
Hide all mask... paint white on mask on remaining scratches.......
combine all onto new layer....
copy new layer...
run Polaroid Dust and Scratch on top layer with Light Dust box UN-checked (Default-dark)...

..... All this as a starting point.... THEN... ... clone and patch...(which has NOT been done yet)

Re: Scratched up Photo

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to exclude the clone or patch tool when those are the tools that would yield the best results?

Re: Scratched up Photo

mostly because using those great tools are a benefit, but I find sometimes using other methods can yield better results..for specific photos not all...
