My post was mostly about the repair, and getting those three areas to match more completely. Next I'll work on the color/contrast, and once that is in shape, I want to try to colorize it.
I'm Digidiva100, wasn't able to log in under that one, it got fouled up somehow.

No, you should always get the basic color (in a color image) and the tones right BEFORE repairing any spots or tears as repairs before toning can show up in unwanted ways later when you change tone and color. I have been restoring photos professionally for 10 years, plus I have watched classes by Matt Kloskowski and other presenters at creativelive.com and lynda.com and they gave that advice too. When the image is monotone, I convert it to black and white using that tool in Lightroom or Photoshop. Later after it's all done but tinting, I use Nik Silver Efex because their tint colors are very good. If I'm doing more than one photo for a client, I give them all the same tint so they match which works well. My recent work: https://www.flickr.com/photos/msippi...7639046192226/

Great first attempt. Obviously, you put in a lot of time. I played with painting on new layers in colour mode.

Re: How'd I do?

I think you did a great job of repairing the damage, my thoughts have to do with minor visual design issues:

1. I think this should be darkened some, it's distracting.
2. Same here, maybe darken this slightly.
3. I would clone those bright reflections out.
4. The adams-apple.. stands out like a sore thumb. Maybe blur along the sharp edge so it's not as noticeable.

I would probably correct the contrast some, but too much and it might look a bit phony.

Re: How'd I do?

Thanks for the tips and tries everyone. I have since finished a "first try" sort of go at this image. Unfortunately, my brother in law passed away last week, so I finished up just in time. The finished piece is on my site, and you can take a look.

I've gone over the ReTouchPro video several times and am practicing those techniques. I plan to tackle this image yet again with a different set of tools. I have several other B/W images I want to do as well, and will post as I go along.

Thanks again!

Very sorry for your loss. I love the retro look of this picture and the color choices.

Re: How'd I do?

Just for fun I practiced some colorizing on this picture this afternoon. Went for a green-blue color scheme, but this could be done so many ways.

Re: How'd I do?

I'll have to reconstruct my web page, I moved servers and my WordPress backup just did not work. I will post the image again and list it here.
