Have you used objects that didn't seem appropriate for a manipulation? If you have, let's hear about it. Maybe this will inspire some creative brain activity.

It's very seldom I have a need for using the type tool, so I know little about type. But, I was playing around with my camera, and I took some shots of different woods to try blending with the type. I also took a shot of a pleated, beige lamp shade, while the lamp was on. Wondering what it would look like if I used it on type, I tried it. Here's the results.

Share, if you would, the steps you took to achieve the "Wood" results so olks like me can learn from your experience.

How about doing something magical with that lamp shade, too -- as long as you weren't wearing it when the pic was taken! (LOL)

Hi Danny,

Not only did I not save it, but I don't remember exactly what I did. I made another one, and here's the description (the document doesn't need to be this large):

New document - 2400 px. high, and 3000 px. wide

Type - Times New Roman, 200 pt., smooth --- typed "Wood"

Drop Shadow, angle 120, distance 38, spread 61, size 34, opacity 20

Bevel & Emboss - check "contour", inner bevel smooth, size 35, soften 0

Dragged the lamp shade image to make another layer

Ctrl + G to group with previous (this puts the lamp shade texture into the text, and now I am able to move the lamp shade layer with the move tool to give the best look to the text)

Image size - resample not checked - 72 ppi

Image size - resample checked changed the size to 25%, which was 750 W, and 600 H

Cropped to 521 W, and 179 H

USM - amt. 93, radius 0.8

Done. This one will probably have a little different look because I'm sure I didn't do it exactly the same as the other.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I upsampled the lamp shade image from 1600 X 1200 to 6400 X 4800.
