Stuck picture - please help.

Hi All

I know you are the ones to help me. I want to do a retouch/restoration of a picture for my neighbor, but when I went to take the picture out of the frame it was stuck to the glass . How do I get the picture off of the glass withoug damaging it any more than it already is?

Thanks in advance for all the great ideas I know you give.

Diane

Will the glass come out of the frame, if so then scan the picture through the glass and avoid damaging it. Ensure the outer face of the glass is as clean as possible.

Here is an excellent thread started by Lampy, a conservator.

Thank you Gary

Gary,

Yes it wll come out. I thought of scanning it through the glass but I didn't think I'd get a good enough copy to work from. I'll give it a try.

Thank you Ed

I read it all with great interest. And am percolating some new ideas if the scanning through the glass doesn't work out.

Thanks again,
Diane

I had that happen to one once and I just put in the darkroom sink and rinsed it with its glass. In a while it floated loose. Of course I was dealing with my own stuff so if I ruined it, it was only me I had to answer to. You don't say but mine was B&W don't remember the paper.

If yours is glossy I think you'll loose the gloss with the rewetting other wise I bet a paper print will take an additional rinse as you would a yellowing print which had been originally rinsed too little.

Good luck
