SinCity style

Im wondering if anyone knows how to create that sin city type style in a photograph? using PS

Make a copy of the source image.
Desaturate it or make it grayscale by whatever means you like best.
Create a Levels adjustment layer above that and adjust the levels to taste.
Create a new layer above the adjustment layer.
Fill it with red.
Change the layer blend mode to COLOR or HUE.
Apply a layer mask to hide all.
Using a white brush, paint in the layer mask anywhere you want something to be red.

at first i didnt liek what it did, but after painting in i found i could achive a nice effect! any more tips on thigns liek this? creating dark gritty pictures?

Not bad at all. I think you've got the basics of the idea down.

A little more practice and just a little more attention to the edges of objects and maybe use a slightly softer brush at the edges to avoid getting too sharp a line.

But really, nicely done.
