easy way,
dublicate the original layer....belnding mode color...and desaturate that layer.

and you are done.

In RGB. Won't work in CMYK. Like RGB, full desaturation in CMYK will put the three CMY values equal; however, owing to the weak nature of the cyan ink, you will get a neutral warm enough to be a species of red.
