The saving private ryan look

I;m sure you guys have caught saving private ryan at one point of time or other.

my question is this, is the muted, desaturated colour easily available for emulation via pprocessing?

http://www.rzm.com/pvt.ryan/movie/village.html

i know this isn't exactly a good example. but i was hoping if someone could point me along the right direction to achieve that sort of moody look

thanks!

The (non-digital) technique is known as "bleach bypass". There are any number of ways to replicate the look in Photoshop. Here is a freeware filter, and I'm sure there will be many other options mentioned.

Interesting question, Triste. I hadn't thought about doing that effect. Thanks for the link, Doug! And yes, it's a great forum.
