hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could offer suggestions or examples of how to add windblown hair to an image (for paintshop 7). I added the hair but it looks too fake. Any suggestions? I could really use the help, thanks!

Well I am not happy with my "hair job," because I don't know what you want to end up with. And what I did doesn't look right either.
However lightening the hair on the left some will bring out the strands. Then on the right using different amounts of luminosity like darker shades where the shadows would be and some highlights where one would expect them to be, and adding somewhat of an irregular contour may make the hair look more realistic.

In my post the interface between her left cheek and the hair still does not look natural and perhaps a hair strand or two would help. I'm sure others will add their comments.

you said you wanted 'wind blown hair', but what i see is added hair. so, i'm a little confused here. do you want wind blown, added, or a combo of both? and if wind blown, then, by how much do you want it to look blown, a wispy wind or a hurricane or something in between?

ok, regardless of my questions, i'll try to answer a bit here. there are 'hair brushes'... no, not that kind. the kind i'm referring to are paint brushes that will simulate making hair. that's one possibility. another would be to find examples of hair in other pictures that fit with what you want and cut and paste those into this picture in the style you want them. and yet another way would be to cut out the hair in the current picture, doctor it a bit and then paste it back in how and where you want it. and yet another way might be to draw in your own hair with a brush on a blank raster layer and use a blend mode to meld it into the original picture.

and, if what you really wanted was just add-on hair, like with what you've done, then the biggest thing i see 'wrong' with it is that it's tremendous amount of hair for one head. i'd simply cut the width down a fair amount. also, make a copy of your original image and rotate it to an angle that the hair is going to fall in your original. then simply clone the hair in from the copy to the original and dust it up a bit. shld look pretty good.

There is a great site for gathering "very high resolution" pictures of celebrities and other good looking people. The site can be a great collecting place for getting hair like you are looking for, jewelry, eyelashes, accessories, posing tips, makeup trends etc etc.

They post 20-30 hi res pictures a day and I have seen parts of hair wisps that could be cloned out to accomplish what your looking for.

Here's my go at this. I use the Liquify tool to add wave to her hair and the Dodge tool to add highlights. I think I added too may highlights, but you get the idea...

SherryLynn, I redid this thinking this was the sort of hair you may have had in mind. Is it? I didn't Burn the lighter areas on the left side under the hair extensions I added, in the even this is now what you had in mind. If it is, you just need to Burn the ligher areas to blend in with the darker ones.

It might be easier to change the extraction from the original image if you have it. I see the original you posted has already had work done on it. I assume you wanted to change the background. It maybe be possible to retain more of the original hair detail helping it look more realistic.
