Hi guys,

I've been trying to imitate the shiseido Golden Kiss, i just can't get to what i am looking for.

I would definitely appreciate some help.

I have attached were i ended with my image. I wanted to make her blonde without stealing from a different image, but I couldn't make her look blonde.

Ideas please?

You mean like this? All I did was create a copy layer, used colour balance to maximise yellow and minimise the other colours in each channel. Placed the new layer below the original and blended the hair into the original image by painting onto a white mask. Adjusted the contrast, skin, eyes and lips.

Did this with a Gradiant Map AJ and masked out everything but the hair.
Very quick could be better with more time spent on it.

I added a solid color adjustment layer set to a medium gold and put the blend mode at overlay. Then added a mask to the color layer and painted back in her natural hair color, lips, eyes etc with a soft black brush at low to medium opacity.

Multiplys, Values, colorizing, etc. to get this result. Sorry for this feeble attempt; I did some many iterations that I can't even remember the steps anyway. lol

here is what I came up with, but looking at the ad there is more to it than just a gril with blond hair.
Frist I did a curves adjustment layer, and then painted in the fitures. Then to make it more gold I went to Image/Adjustment/photo filter and I picked a goldy yellow collor at 25%. I made the canvas bigger then added a gradient to the background and soften the edges, because I tipped the head. I didn't bother straightening the logos, but they probably should be.

I'm kinda looking for the more natural makeup feel, i tried increasing yellow but the finished image looked like unnatural to me.
I will have to try your tips, thank you so much, i will post my finished image.

Hi Cathy,

I really liked what you did, would you mind sharing the complete steps?
I followed your instructions, but i couldn't get that gold effect. Even on the hair, i want a blonde hair, which you did, but when i am doing it, it just won't turn blonde.

They say patience is the key to retouching, well i've ran out on this one.
I've already used so many layers and i still can't get the look i want.

I've posted my before and after, and i'm hoping Cathy would share her secrets

Too achieve that effect, you'll have to invest a lot of hours into an image. Layers upon layers are needed to achieve the look of fashion ads. And a decent photo to start from is preferable. A mere snapshot doesn't do the trick, if you get what I mean. But practice makes perfect, as the saying goes...

Hi Giga,
Sorry I took so long to post, but here are the steps I used. I think I have most of them down.

The first I used a filter/sharpen/unsharped mask about 80, 3, 0

Next thing I did was to use the curves adjustment layer and i really lightened up the picture. then I painted back in some of the face because it was too light. I think this maybe the most important.

I also used a layers mask and painted in some more of the face from the original layer.

I think on the layer 1 i used an adjustment/photo filter and I changed the color to a warm yellow. something like 241, 189, 90 ??

then I added some more canvas and made a background layer with a gradient, foreground to background, using the color picker I chose a light gold and a medium brown, and the linear gradient.

Next I used the dodge tool and burned away some of the hair on the one outer edge to make it less distinct. I think I used the tool on her forehead and check too. Then to redefine I used the burn tool to darken some of the hair just by her face. also I burned in some shadows on the right hand side of the photo.

Finally on layer 1 I painted on the layer mask to blend/soften the photo into the background.

I tipped the photo slightly making it more dynamic, and having some extra canvas gives it more of an airy feel.
