levels problem (reset)

hi,

hope someone out there can help, as i'm getting pretty frustrated. i'l got a rather large .psb document (2.1gb when saved, 5.1bg when opened), and every time i save it and reopen it, all the levels adjustment layers reset themselves... has anyone come accross this before? and is there a work around?

Welcome to RetouchPRO, Anders...

By "reset themselves," do you mean when you open the Levels dialog after reopening the document the Levels settings are 0, 1.0, 255?

Hmmm... very odd. Never had this happen to me, nor have I ever read of these symptoms before. (I lurk on a number of Photoshop forums.)

In addition to fishing here at RetouchPRO I would suggest casting a wider net: Start a thread in the Windows/Photoshop forum at http://www.Adobe.com, which is monitored by Adobe engineers and some real power users. Be sure to specify Photoshop version, i.e., CS2 or whatever and Windows version and SP level. IMO there is no better resource for assistance on problems of this nature that have such obscure and unusual symptoms.

in case anyone was wondering... got this reply from chris cox at the adobe forum.

It happens if the adjustment layer data is written out past 2 Gig in the file, due to a small (and kinda obscure) bug in the adjustment layer reading code. The data is written correctly, but just not read back in correctly.

The only way to avoid it is to use CS2.

Glad you got an answer on this one.

Chris Cox, an Adobe Engineer, is a sharp dude. If you watch the Photoshop splash screen, his name is among the names listed.
