Retouching Asian and African skin

Hi All - Ive had a punishing time trying to get some great looks with retouching skin that's dark .What is the best way to work ?

Ive tried clone , heal and its just damn ugly ! All ideas welcome .

much easier to help if you have an actual image posted here. also good if you can post the original and one of your renditions where we can see what you're doing and what you're running into.

I thought about that after the fact ! ill try to find one from work and put it up - Half the problem is bad makeup or no makeup and major shine on darker skin .
Im working for a studio and ive got most images sorted to an extent - but run into trouble and cant get the desired look i like on darker tones .
