Many Fine Discolored Cracks

Hello All:

I am very knew to this board and very, very new to Paint Shop Pro 10. My very lovely mother would love for me to restore this wedding picture of her. I don't mind admitting that I am lost!!! I have tried adjusting for fade, cloning, then airbrushing on a blank raster and blending w/ color legacy, but it either looks very fake, or remains cracked. I made sure to keep opacity of the clone/airbrush at 50%.

I would appreciate any suggestions. It would make a lovely Christmas gift. Thanks in advance.

I guess I am really showing what a newbie I am! It just took me an hour to resize small enough. I hope it's not too small! Cynthia

Here is my take on the picture. Neat image-twice, degrunge, lots of trial and error. Some improvement.

Re: Many Fine Discolored Cracks

Hi Cynthia

Your example is too small and lacking in detail I'm afraid. Much of the dress has no detail under the damage. I am not an artist and i believe it would take someone with more skill than I. I tried to estimate where the shadow folds would be. I painted on a blank layer set to Multiply where I thought the shading would be. Then below that layer I painted with white. Then played with opacity and blur. Not very well I'm afraid.

I painted the curtain with gray and a pattern to try and match the existing... used another shade layer for the folds.

For the brides face I just used the smudge tool.

Re: Many Fine Discolored Cracks

Well, I think everyone has done an incredible job! I guess I will just keep playing with it until Dec. 24th! Of course, I am open to more suggestions. Thanks again.

P.S. Even when I scanned the image in Tiff, it has lost a lot of detail. I am interested in painting on a blank layer in multiply........
