Anyone Know how to get this effect?

This are photo from Patrick Hoelck. I am interested to know anyone really know what kind of retouching is done here? the photos are really attractive but not sure what kind of retouching is required? Can anyone help?

my english is not that good but i'll try...
background, and some of the figure are altered- darker with different saturation.. this works best on photos that have deep shadows. put one photo here and i can try

patrick hoelck has skme interesting photos! as said...deep shadows is key factor...darkening the pictures and chaning colour is very important!

but looks closely at the models! it's like som ekind of HALO effect! there are light areas surrounding the bodies and head! I think that he has darken the picture down in ps and then masked out some of th ebody to preserve details, shadows and light!

create a new layer, fill with a very dark color (orangy or greeny) play with blend modes, once done, merge layers and play with levels.
