This started life as a mirror and printer’s ink being poured over a sheet of glass. The separate elements were then built into this image.
Do you not regard this as retouching?

well, I do if you have altered the picture from the original! I'm very used to people retouching, so I was abit lost to your whole idea!

Can you explain abit on what you have done? did you add the left mirror?

What is this for? I still don't understand what this is exactly.

I appreciate that most of your retouching are people, but most of my retouching jobs are not people, therefore I thought it would be interesting to get your comments.
The original shot was a line of ink poured down onto a sheet of glass and allowed to flow over the edge of the glass. Mirrors were photographed at different angles and retouched to clean up the reflections. A hole was “digitally” cut in one of the mirrors and the ink was pieced together to flow through the hole. The left hand side was again built from separate elements of the same shot.
This was produced for a paper manufacturer and is part of 10 images, all on a similar theme.

Hi Ralph,
I like your illustrations.
on the first one, is the glass suppose to be bent on the horizontal glass, so the paint runs off it?
If so I think you need to add a bend/angle in the front right hand corner, similar to the angle in the back right hand corner.

it's nice to see other sruff, unusual, but interesting! you have to agree that posting these types of retouches for th efirst time will leave some people abit confused! Thanks for the words on what you did! watched the picture and I understood this better!

I like the version2 you posted! the broken glass is made digitally?

I see where you are coming from Cathy, and I originally agreed with you. However, once the ink finds it level to flow down the mirror, there is nothing to deflect it into a bend to then flow through the hole.
Thank you for your positive comments, maybe the bend at the top right where the ink first hits the mirror is wrong?

Hi Gerry.

No, it’s real. I now have seven years bad luck in breaking a mirror. I hit a mirror with a hammer to give me the elements I required. I then laid the broken bits out like a jigsaw and photographed it. I used to use broken mirrors a lot in my photography so I recon I’m well stuffed for the rest of my life.
I now use fiber optic flashlights, so there may be hope for me!!!!!

Well there is something not quite right.

How about adding in the back right hand corner of the horizontal glass, so the glass is a nice rectangle and I think you will achieve the look you want.

On your first illustration it seems to me that the "Ink" goes up hill after hitting the glass and then does not follow the tilt of the glass to flow..
Also, the reflection does not merge at the hole but continues on through the hole sort of "Esher" like..
Just my thughts though.
