Re: Retouching Tutorials

I recorded the tutorials on my computer with snaps pro, it costs about $60, and hooked up a mic.
I'd love to see your other skin smoothing techniques, and the Amy Dresser one (the white layer / hightlight?). I want to get a burn and dodge skin smoothing technique up too, its a bit difficult to translate to students that it is fairly easy conceptually, it just takes a great deal of skill and practice. I think thats why so many people think high end retouchers are holding out some sort of secret. The real secret is simply to practice

No problems... I have a really rough tutorial here for skin smoothing.

Amy uses three techniques really. The one you have shown with the 50% gray layer and overlay (I think you use Soft Light) blend, the multiple curves adjustment layer technique (e.g. Tweak the curve up and mask for highlights, tweak down mask for carving), and the Blue channel copy to select highlights and copy this to a white overlay layer.

Edit: Burn and dodge too... but I don't like this... It gives nasty casts to the skin.

I have an example of a photo I did here. This uses all the techniques mentioned here.

Anyway.. I apologise... I'm going away from the original topic.

Re: Retouching Tutorials

Haha, small world. Great tutorials, Christy! You should teach it in class. =)
