| Re: PhotoShop Elements 5.0 Noob Needs Help w/ Simple Color Change Question! This isn't very good because I didn't get rid of all the jpeg artifacts etc in the image but the general idea is there. Here are the steps that I took to get there.
Edit>Convert to Profile and change to LAB
Pick a point on the boat that best represents what you think should be white and mark it with a fixed point that you can get from below the eyedropper on the toolbar.
Create a curves adjustment layer.
Bring the highlight endpoint in the L curve inward until the value for the L channel in the info palette for the point you marked is at about 95.
Go to the A and B curves and bring the endpoints up and down to create a straight horizontal line at the 50 point in the curve.
Everything should be black and white at this point.
Bring up the Blending Options dialog box for the curve layer.
Go down to the Blend If Command and, using the underlying layer slider, bring the green slider inward in the A channel and the blue slider inward in the B slider.
Finally, using the layer mask on the curve layer, paint with black over everything that was red that you didn't want to change. The jackets and the boats on the top layer of pictures.
You can mess around with it a little to your liking. |
