makeup and retouching

well, we all know that makeup is important when it comes to fashion, glamour, still life shoots...but maybe we all need to know the basics within the makeup as well?
I always wondered why even after makeup the models still have blemishes that show abit or why the skin looks untreated when you start the post production in ps...I searched for makeup and photography on google and found some few simple steps to use when taking pictures of models that do their own makeup...

maybe it's something we all should carry with us when doing model shoots...

cheers

Gerry

Re: makeup and retouching

I couldnt agree with you more. Thanks for the insight.

Most great glamor photographs have great makeup artists creating a great original image on the model that we shoot. A lot of the effects that people are trying to get with Photoshop are really best done before the camera even snaps the first picture.

Great eyes, great lip glosses, special highlights, and great complexions are created for the photographer by the makeup artist he is working with. We try to do the same thing without a makeup artist - which is quite often - by taking snapshots and trying to turn them into portraits.

The retouching artist learns a lot when he studies how women apply the makeup - so he can do the same things with Photoshop. Its amazing what you can learn from observing finished pictures and also learning the techniques of digital makeup from the real makeup artists.
