What do you do to get these kinds of Retouch Effects

Firstly.. hi.. I just came across this website and its great, so here is my first thread.

This has always been my favourite photographer and I'd love to know if anyone knows what kind of techniques are used to retouch photos like
this..

Many thanks.

Darkendangel

Check this thread.... here

The link you provided shows many different shots with different effects. Which one were you interested in? It is impossible to say how a photographer achieves a particular effect just from looking at a photograph. Many times a given effect is controled in the studio via lighting. Other times Photoshop and various filters are used to provide an effect. One could only guess at exactly how he "got there".

Looks like the upper portion was desaturated (you can detect a gradient mask on that adjustment about midway down the photo so that the red skirt remains red) then the upper portion given a greenish color overlay (also masked in areas) then dodge and burn on the highlights and shadows.

There are filters that lead to this type effect, but overall, I don't like the grunge look of these types of photos. They just seem "dark" and drepressing to me. JMHO

i think lara uses color balance to push her shadows towards cyan and her highlights just a tad towards yellow. the cyan shadows can also clear up details in case the image has a red color cast (most of my images do). for the grungy look you can use a neutral gray layer, fill it with monochrome noise and experiment with blending modes and opacity. in the end it's all about experimenting.

i personally love her style.

darkenedangel....i don't know what your photoshop skills are, but i wouldnt concentrate on what tools or methods yo use to get your images to look that way, there's always a number of different ways to get the same result in photoshop.....i think it's more about building up your aesthetic, and eye for images.

to me those samples are basic color moves, no special retouching added to them. i like to look at an image, and instead of thinking what tools were used, figure out what the artist is trying to acomplish, mood, coloring, detail stuff like that.
