Thanks for sharing the H3D 39 file keiserjohn, it was great to work with a medium format file in Photoshop after years of retouching 5D files, what a difference!

So here's my edited version of the image, basically just gave it a good amount of contrast using channels and sharpening, then imported the original .dng back in as a colour overlay. I'm no D&B expert and preffered to spend my weekend out in the sun, so maybe with a bit of further D&B it would be more DH.

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

I've read through most of this thread and figure it's the best place to have my first post here at RP. Hello everyone

I've learned a great deal here at this epic thread but still haven't come to a look that I like. I'm having a hard time getting the right local contrast, getting the grit and getting the right color.

I tried the recent sample image and got this..

1st try with db

Here is the same with a layer of lucis on top at a very low setting, it's closer to what I'm after but too lucis-y.

1st try with db and lucis

I tried HiPass at high radii to help local contrast but it only obliterated detail. Maybe I should try luminosity masking next.?. I posted my layers palette with the pics to show what I did.

I thought Mtmm's version of this on the last page was just about perfect and would love to know how he got the hands to look like that and the color too. Really nice.

I also like obosila's stuff. I couldn't understand the video, he probably laid the whole thing out there.

At any rate, hello RP and if Dave Hill wants to IM me and tell me how it's done I'd be all ears.

If you're asking my opinion, I dont care for the image at the top of this page. It looks overdone and solarized. On the other hand. I love your shot on the previous page of the guy in the closet. That one is great. Care to share any pp treatments on that one? Like how you got the guy suspended looking?

ETA: One reason I like mtmm's example of the scarf guy is because he preserves all the fine detail of the original, like in the eyebrows. He also is bringing out all the real detail in the hands and face when doing his effect. I am painting my details in and they look mushy and his arms look like bacon in my version.

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

actually I'm asking Obosila, anyway thx for your opinion as well ))
I don't care that this is "overdone and solarized" Cauze it's easy to change..evrery step is controlled ) I just wanted a little bit of a bronze skin. Mayme u're right, a little bit overdone

Concerning that picture (guy in the closet). I don't see this picture good ). It's just a montage. Everything what you know about photoshop, you use it!

(my engliigh ((((((( )

Man, I just assumed he was shot in that position in the closet with a light in the ceiling. I forget I'm at RP, where the retouchers are.
I do love the treatment on that guys shirt and arms in the shot.
What was the original shot for him, a guy jumping? or on a small trampoline??
