hehe, sorry, forgive me, but i can't resist, your photo is so nice and great, if i can have something that good then i will do on my own photos, but too bad i don't have any of that, so if you know a place where i can get photos like yours with good lighting [mostly photos of bands, people on roads, works, students playing,....] then please tell me, i would like to learn on those photos.

I apologize and sorry again.

You always need a raw file to work with. You cannot go and edit finished jpg:s. We need to work at high resolution, that is the only way to achieve clean look.

lighting is the key, when it's hard lighting, like the sun! In this way, it's easy to get really cool hdr background..
But the thing which I can't get, why do u use some kind of muscleman for your stuff?) is that cool?)

Why not? Should we all be in a same little box?

In fact i used his JPEG because it is better, i saw many RAW files that i can't work with it because the lighting was not good enough, and not any lighting, but i like that hard or contrast lighting, in all HDR i do without hard or contrasty lighting or exposure i can't get better HDR, so same with Dave Hill Look, we need something like high contrast or hard lighting, in the JPEG it was closer to hard lighting, maybe the RAW will not be contrasty enough and i can't work on that to convert it to contrasty first then apply any different techniques, i saw some photos on Flickr that are really amazing even they are not Dave Hill but they are so contrasty and the portraits look a lil bit surreal and the background is grungy, so i retouched that and to my surprise it was very very close to DH only need more D&B and masks to be perfect but i don't know that, and when i tried on many RAW files including some i did with my Canon or H3D even with that lights i have on different f-stops i couldn't get even closer to those shots i saw, so it is beginning with the special effect or look by lighting then we can apply any techniques for surreal looks [HDR, Dave Hill, Draganize,.....].

And sorry again for using your image, Mtmm, if it is not what i look for then i will never work on it for myself.

I've downloaded like 15 backstage videos, the light set up is basic, but basic as hell. And it's always the same set up, otherwise, the retouch woudln't be so straight.
The retouching skills of this guy are the real thing.

Trying using HighPass 40px with linear light and some play in the opacity. It gives interesting results, also in Overlay and mixed. Also do it with a 1024px image, it will look more exact to what this guy does. However, no one wonders
how look those pics at high res.
