Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

This is my latest attempt. Was reading Daves article in Digital SLR mag and about the way he uses surface blur to smooth the skin. I used surface blur, then brought back some of the skin detail with a high pass filter and then put dodging and burning over that for the shadows/highlights.

The pic was taken with D300 with 18mm lens, 3 lights (1 sb900 w/softbox camera left, 2 metz 48's for the back/rim lights. All colouring was done in lightroom.

Just for the record, in the article you refer to from Digital SLR Mag, Dave doesn't actually say that he uses Surface Blur...the magazine simply implies that he does.

Big difference!

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

He is using something similar. they all achieve the same thing.
Noise reduction, `surface Blur, Median etc...
I also beleive he is doing that and then putting some grit or grain after the fact so that it is not to smooth.
Also Cyspesik, you had the best of anybody here when you did your Indian Jones, but from there you seemed to have posted crappy stuff afterwards?
Also do not under estiate your stuff. The effect was way better than MTmm's.
Your just mssing the production part like he is doing, which takes a lot of hard work.

You were on the right track with Indian Jones and do not know whay you change after that post.

Mtmm was using Bleach bypass also as he stated a while back then erased the post.

Best bet is use Lucis, Nik, or any kind of Contrast plug then just smooth it out a little and you'l be on the right track. really not that difficult.

Good Job Sam, i´m wondering about the Lights you use to get this Light Effect.
Have you take the Photo in the Evening because the Light hasn´t enough Power to Flash against the Sunlight?
Sorry for my English!
