Would you be able to share your process/steps with us? Your results look very convincing.

Very nice work troco. I'm trying very hard to learn this technique. Take a couple of minutes and check out this gallery from a friend in China. He uses only Photoshop, no additional software. http://jingweiliu.deviantart.com/gallery/

Thought I would add a personal piece I just finished. This was not intended to emulate Dave Hill's style. In fact it probably looks nothing like his work. I'm only posting this to add to the point that Adrian was making - To have a dynamic look you have to start with good light. That is how you shape and define your subject. Highlight/Shadows is not going to give you what you want if you have a flatly lit, or available light shot. One of the main aspects of the look of Dave Hill, Tim Tadder, Jim Fiscus ect. is their use of shadows and highlights created by LIGHTS.

Points about this shot:

1. No Highlights/Shadows
2. Dodge and Burn was only used to even out a few tones on her face and arm - Nowhere else.
3. No plug ins.
4. No HDR.
5. High Pass was utilized only to create splits. *See "HighPass Sucks" on ModelMayhem, or purchase Natalia Tafferel's retouching DVD.

Ah. Yes. Photoshop only. I've nothing against plug ins - just haven't seem many that I dig.
