At the emboss I think I used: 110 or 120 angle.... 1 px and 500 - amount. Soft Light Mode

First HP filter... 4% - Linear light Blend mode (opacity to your like)

Second HP filter 6.9 or 7 % - Color Blend mode - turn down opacity 40%

At the Blur Noise layer you need to blur everything except the eye balls... (Layer Mask)

Blur 9.5% Noise - Add Noise 3% Gaussian Monochromatic

Hm...I`m bad in english, but I`ll try)
Firstly, make Raw-conversion, and open file as Smart Object, than duplicate it, change contrast and "clarity" of top layer and set 60-70% opacity. Blend mode is Luminosity. Merge Layers.

After that duplicate layer, made double noise-reduction for top layer, and returne details, by duplicating background layer and swithing it to the top of layers. Blend mode "Soft Light", High-pass about 2,00 radius.

And some color correction...)

I'm in search mode with all these settings... I hope someday soon I'll get to the trick... Although the original photo (lighting) is very important.
True it starts with his lighting and then he takes it to the next level with his retouch he does a lot of compositing in his work. I am especially interested in how he rim lights and the use of his ring light almost makes me want to get one.

Yeah all that can be made a action with or without the ability to enter the radius information and if smart objects are used can be updated after the action is run...

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

Hi!

First I have to thank you all for your good advices in this forum! I'm quite new in here and this is my first post.

Here is my try of Dave's processing style. Bringing out specular highlights by using studio lighting and pwl. Little bit color adjustments and airbrushing, that's all. This was very quick try, I made it in half an hour. What do you think?
