It's the cover of the magazine. At the bottom is Dave Hills picture from Treasure hunt serie. And yes, the interview is in the paper not on the web. Shame, but i thought to back order that magazine because its last months issue. Does someone own that mag? is it worth 5pounds?

I find it funny how people insist in doing what they call "the dave hill effect" with photos that look nothing like something Dave himself would shoot.

It's like saying "hey, look at my driving, is my Formula1 driving style getting better?"... when u got a Daewoo.

I think most people here are realistic enough to understand they won't duplicate the Dave Hill style of processing/effect. I think most people are simply looking to find a means to develop their own process and style. i think it's more about sharing ideas and techniques more than anything else.

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

This was my first attempt, it was long time ago, i was not sure to go with Dave Hill or with HDR, but at the end i didn't waste time to process it more, so here it is:

Original [Before]:
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4803/a0532ojl9.jpg

After 1:
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/8259/a0532hw5.jpg

After 2:
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4388/a05322td5.jpg

Again, it is not so great, so i will try to improve more one day if i have people or models [interesting and interested] to play with.

Still running?
Wow, i hope you all here learned a lot.
To bad that so many people here work with the wrong photography.
Most of the people here try to do the effect with photoshop.

Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he

The main concept is - a lot of dodge and burn (you need to practise and practise and practise a lot). After sharpening (the main parts of those people: mouth, eyes etc.) I've noticed that effect is artifficial so I used selectively blur afterall. What is funny, I've never thought that way - colour. I used on top layer 50% (or about) opacity solid color (some brown) layer in color dodge or linear light to get overall mood.

Would you be able to do a snapshot of your layer stack? Not quite how you used selective blur. (confused)

P.S. I didn't once touch the Highlight / Shadows adjustment, or High Pass, or Unsharp Mask. Go Figure!

I don't think we ALL do...
It's just amusing that people start these threads and want info on how to turn a natural light photo into a Dave Hill photo with Shadow Highlight & High Pass!

Hello!
What do you think about these:
www.danidunca.ro1
&
www.danidunca.ro2

The secret is good lighting, dodge and burn, contrast and some structure
