There also might be some parts of the action or the entire action that may have other applications or uses..

| | | Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he I understand that this site is about sharing, and I have shared my whole flow. Also, showed the best How-to of DH I have seen to date. I am all about sharing.
It's just a debate in my head about if it’s marketable. I am also worried about someone taking what I made and selling it for themselves. I am young, 22, and want to learn as well as teach (help) others.
My quick solution is to be nice, and to do the action for people as I stated earlyer.
It’s tough to make decisions like this. I know that someone with more experience can use my action to great success. The only downfall is that it only works with clean, well done images, as it will only make discolorations and noise very obvious.
I have tried it on other images and it gives things a more 3d look. I call it TOON because of DH.
I'll think about it.

I mask out the skin when I High pass filter. Sometimes I’ll form paths when I’m going to be using object selections often.
I posted a reduced version of the PSD cropped or the texture part below. It should help you visualize how to do the texturing as well as some insight on how I edited the picture. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D551PZQD
(See attached image for instructions on the DL, the code may change)
I also re-edited the picture, GF said the hair looked funny so I did some changes, copied original hair and pasted into new picture (then slight sharpening). http://www.flickr.com/photos/2293339...41043/sizes/o/
Good luck |

Nice of you to try and help out but you have actually not contributed anything.
You basically summarized the thread and AGAIN talked about the lighting, which is basic 3 point/4 point lighting.
You say you shared your whole flow? What flow.
You have not mentioned anything that has not already been mentioned a thousand times.
Again your looney tooney action is useless as the only way to get this effect (properly) is good old dodging and burning and then playing with Shadows and highlights which ever way you want to.
So no more debating your action is not marketable.

I am just an Old retired fart and was not thinking about marketability.. if you can keep your secrets and develop a "LucisArt" like plug-in and keep it out of the hands of the 'Pirates' while getting rich.. then more power to you! |

Sorry if i offened you, it was ment as more of a complement as it was good. If you did not knowtis, your picture specificly only changed the background. Your editing was very good, and I could only hope to become up to your level.
The image was removed, as per your request.
Snook305,
I was wandering when you would comment. You are right, it was a summery; something some people need as it takes a week to read.
You do not need to like my editing, I wouldnt expect you to think I am on your level. I have only been doing this for 8 months or so. I took what I learned from DH and used it to my own photo/style. I desclamed that I am not good at D&B and could improve. I am by no means the best here.
I'll try and shoot a DH photo soon just to show you, I just do not have enough flashes but I'll figure it out.
OlBaldy,
I understand you and many of the people here would not use it for selling, but im sure their is someone out their getting paid to look therough all these threads for ideas and consumer trends.
Just give me a while and I will figure it out. |

| | | Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he hey man not a big deal, everyone has to start somewhere and I think posting here for some critique is cool... just try and do it to a photo of your own and I think you will take more ownership to it.
for dodge and burn you just really have to study the human figure and how light and shadow fall and fall off and just enhance what isn't there to create a more dynamic range. |

| | | Re: The demystification of dave hill! let's all he I know what and how to do things, but do not know the human figure. I am an accounting major and that has nothing to do with it. I need to find a model or substitute to to practice on. But its worth it, to take things to the next level.
I am taking cue's from makeup artiest on where they would put the highlights and darkeners. I just haven't had time to study, and put it all together.
This is why I like photography, you have to know a little of everything to get it right.
