Tell me your opinion, please

This is my first attempt to dodge and burn postprocess.
Could you tell me your opinion, what I should improve.
Whether the shadow and highlight transitions arent so strong !?

thanks a lot

What effect(s) are you trying to achieve, rodriguez? When you tell us 'we' can maybe offer an opinion on whether, and how well, you achieved that. Or how else you could try to achieve it.

Re: Tell me your opinion, please

Very nice picture to practice on...thanks! hav eyou taken thes pictures???

Good tip is to work with dodge and burn on lower strength...maybe around 3%...this is to get a more even result before the effect is pushed too far! Your shadows and highlights is a bit too high! the skin tone is really amplifying this...

I had ago at it and used only a small amount of burn to the cheeks and more dodge to the hair light...

Re: Tell me your opinion, please

It's all about dodge and burn! This is nice since you can choose to preserve some of the texture...

here is the other picture....i big struggle with the hair, but I liked the overall output here...

I tried to keep this in the same colour theme...did I manage to do that?

These picture were nice! Only thing I can say is that your hair dresser should learn how to shape the hair more...it's not a critique only a suggestion or a good tip among friends ...Hair is always difficult

First this is a great image to work with. Nice photo!

The way that I dodge and burn is to create a new layer and fill it with 50% gray. Then change the blend mode of the layer to overlay. Then with a soft brush paint with white and black to dodge and burn. The important thing is to set the flow of the brush down to around 3-12% (YMMV) and make very subtle changes. I used a small brush and painted around the iris then a larger brush and lightened the entire eye. I also lightened the hair to give it the texture that your edit had because I liked it. I burned in on her cheeks to give her a little color and high bone structure look. I also darkened the lips a little with a slight burn. Some slight patch work on a few places around her face. I would have smoothed the skin slightly if I thought you were going for a glamour look but I didn't. I hope this helps.

Take care,
Jim
