What immediately strikes my eye is that the red carpet isn't realistic.
(The lines are to hard where it's folded. The corners also should be a little rounded. You lack the 'thickness' of the carpet.)

Toning is ok.

I like the over all look, but I think you lost the shoes into the shadows, the foot on the door looks odd, maybe putting some highlights onto them.

Looks sweet. I disagree about the carpet, anyone who looks at it and hasn't seen the before will never know.

The shoes completely disappear.

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I agree with JakobSkogheim. I really don't think that anyone would second guess the stairs unless they saw the original image. As far as the shoes go, I do agree that they are lost in the shadows but that was not a concern of mine or the client. The image was meant to have a very dramatic mood inside and outside of the door.

Keep the feedback coming! I'll post some more stuff soon.

You took out the light above the door, but is the shadow and the reflection of the light still there?

That depends on who you are showing it.

If you show it to your neighbour, he/she surely won't see it.
If you show it to an art director in an agency, .......

That's my experience.

Hi Giulia,

You need to get the perspective tool working on the doorway

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

i think what alison meant was to starighten your shot out a bit, the angle is awkward. try and straighten it a bit it might give it more impact,

I don’t think it is possible to straighten this shot without losing a lot of quality.

Hi Giulia,

I don't know if you took the photograph or not, but you perhaps could have left a little more information around the shot.

Chillin is right, lots of info is lost, but is your posted shot the original ? I have attached my version.

I would nt change perspective. You 'll loose dynamics.
Make it darker on the edges, so all the attention goes to your model/carpet.

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

I don't really feel it's my place to be the photographers eye. Perspective can always be fixed if it's requested but in this case I really feel the perspective on the doorway makes it very tall and intimidating.

Alison, yes that is the original. I didn't take out any information.

Hi Giulia,

Then there would be too much lost information to adjust the perspective. I agree that the doorway is very tall and intimidating, but I don't see that or the lady when I look at the image - all I see is the doorway falling backwards. That is only what I see of course

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

Well, keep in mind that this is being done for a client. So correcting the angle of the shot may not be to the clients liking, especially if the client is the photographer.

The angle and perspective in that shot is part of the draw to the image. To flatten out the perspective would wreck it.

Only thing I agree with thus far is the shoe on the door. It's blending too much with the dark colors on the door. Maybe add some specular highlights to the shoe to define it?

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

I dont know but if you say the client was happy with it,everything else is a mute point really. When looking at someones work we can always find something we could have done different, like for me the carpet is to bright,
the top of the window of the door still has light on it you have to ask from what,I also find the carpet lines to sharp where they fold down the edge of the stairs

just an opinion zganie

i just think ppl point out those areas, because it will help improve that persons eye, and maybe down the line that will pay off for them, bigger and better clients, more money etc. i guess that's why thy asked for feedback, right?

I see your point KR1156,it is just that no matter how well something is done show it to 10 people and someone will find something wrong woth it.But your point is well taken we can always improve ourselves

just my opinion zganie

Re: High End Retouch- Feedback Wanted!

whats "bad" is the middle step. the shadowing is off. also the carpet color is too red, too light and two much contrast. It stands out more then the rest of the photo. Plus the napping (grain) of the carpet is too large and sharp for that photo.
