Help me tweak a photo...

I do not know how this place works, so bear with my noob-ness

I am an amateur photographer, got into it 4 yrs ago to take pics of product at our boutique we own, and now do the ads for our store that are in little local magazines. A recent photo of one of the girls that works for us came out well, used it in a ad, going to make 4x6 postcards now for our october SALE.

The image is this

For the SALE card, I want to do a 70's, darker, greener mood/tone to it. I really like this guys work, but I 'think' to achieve that I would have needed to underexpose the original image, more light solely on model, etc, but is anything like that possible?
Here is the guys work I admire

Any tips would be great, or if you all want to take some stabs at it here, go ahead-as long as you tell me what/how to do.
Thanks

Craig

Re: Help me tweak a photo...

I'm not certain what you are asking for here. You could certainly darken the shot, say make it a night scene, and change the the dress color to a darker color, assuming you have the original photo. In my humble opinion though, I think the one that you have is better than the samples that you are wanting to copy.

Hi Shoptangerine,

My neurons musn't be firing yet, cos I'm not sure what it is you want

Do you want the image that you used in the mag, or the image of the model only to be in the sale card ?

You can just paint in the edges to put the focus on the model more. You could make a hue/sat adjustment layer and pick a colour for the image, then add a new blank layer and using a soft edge brush paint in around the edges.

Hi ST,

I've added a very quick and nasty image for you to look at. You would need the original shot of the model to do something decent with it and perhaps add some grain etc.,

Re: Help me tweak a photo...

My 'tangerine' photo/ad, with text, store info etc.....is already done...I want to use the SAME image (girl standing in front of pool, valley etc) for a SALE postcard. I want to tweak the image to have a little more 70's mood......in a style thats like the flickr link I sent.
So I dont know how one would do that if possible. Do not know how that got lost in translation, but it is what it is.
Thanks

Night-scene, here you go!

Just had a quick and go, to have fun.

The nightscene is a BG from DigitalBlasphemy.

Re: Help me tweak a photo...

Something like this?

Basically, I darkened the bg using curves and levels while masking out the model. I also tweaked the color using selective color to add cyan and a bit of yellow.

Re: Help me tweak a photo...

Is this pic going in the right direction?

Worked with the contrast (contrast mask) and saturation. The artifacts are introduced because the resolution of the original is too low, but the idea comes through.
