Yes MacBurg, how can you miss with a Canon 5D? I have another client who has one and I have assisted her on photo shoots, mainly fashion concepts and the quality is outstanding. You have and rented i guess Broncolors, top of the line, but if you decide to stay in the game and need a good lighting rig, check out the Alien Bees, Zeus systems. I have been using Bees for years and they deliver, are dependable, much cheaper than Broncolor, Profoto. Also there are many accessories available to add and the Zeus system is compatible with DynaLites.

Maybe shooting jewelry is your niche, you will find that out real soon, as a quality you need more than anything to be a great jewelry shooter is patience and perserverance and good Photoshop skills. Keep us posted on your progress and workflow

I had further bad luck with the white perspex sheet I was going to use as a table and back for my jewelry shoot. I ended up using half of it as a vertical backdrop in the tent, and had holes drilled along the top edge with small fish hooks tied in it to hang jewelry from. After the shoot I removed all the hooks when packing up, and when I got home I was walking out a door carrying the perspex sheet, the sheet clipped the bottom of the door and my hand slipped along the top edge and into a hook I had left tied in. A major slip up on my behalf, and with all the actual fishing I do, I never imagined this would happen to me at home! Check the pics in the link below -

Whoa, MacBurg, that is a nasty wound. ouch! If it gets infected, better let the ole doc look at it and give ya a shot to clear it up, looks pretty deep

BTW, if I didn't know it was a real wound, I would say you did one h... of a retouching illusion in PS

No retouch there, just a really sharp hook and a painful afternoon, the hook was high tensile steel so couldn't be cut, and what better excuse to get the power tools out. One little touch though with the cutting wheel and the hook would instantly heat up and burn into my finger, probably the most painful part of the operation, but I think it helped to disinfect/seal the wound as I had no troubles with it healing up.

Maybe as jewelry photographers we should be charging danger pay as well?
