Hey all, I just would like to know how would i go about making the skin texture similiar to the image i posted? its like a metallic blackish look

it looks like a grunge brush texture, and then the emboss filter was possibly used before it was mapped onto the face...

That's CG. It usually achieves by using a bunch of different maps, such as bump map, specular map, diffuse map, color map, and normal map. A nice 3D program with a nice renderer and then some post work in PS.

Yes, but not for a living...I wish, though. I have a BFA in 2D/3D computer animation. I moved to L.A to find 3D work, but man...it's insanity. So, I retouch to pay the rent. Right now, I'd consider myself more of a retoucher with a strong background in 3D than an animator.

To me it's the competitiveness of the field. There are just too many people with the same skill sets coming from all over the place trying to get the same thing. It's more luck than talent unless the stuff in your demo reel is 'lord of the ring' quality. Then again, how many college grads are able to produce that kind of quality with a home computer? I can't believe not a single person I've talked to all these years at parties or in bars was actually from L.A. It's really not that disappointing, though. Most of my friends made it in the industry and are doing some amazing stuff. At least now I have some connections. I just need to work on my demo reel. I can always resort to internship, but the cost of living is too high out here if you don't live at home.

I received my degree in 2002 and I've been retouching ever since.

and how is the retouching field in that area?

Due to my constant struggle trying to get into 3D, the retouching field is a lot easier to get in for me. I didn't really have a retouching portfolio when I applied for my past jobs. I don't think it's really matter since all the retouching houses out here test you on the stuff that's more specifically related to what they do, and I just managed to pass everything they threw at me. I've only been here for a few years to know if that's really what's going on. Maybe someone here from L.A. will have a second opinion on this.

Yes a lot of competition and low quality sometimes.
