how to get these effects?

Hey all, I was looking at a site and I saw these pictures.
It has these rich color and amazing details!
I tried with unsharpen mask and high pass to achieve these details but the result is not satisfying and stunning as these.
Anyone can give a detail explaination on it?

Re: how to get these effects?

lots of fill light when processing raw files. Bumping black values way up as well. Many people use packaged actions for this effect, I think one of them is called draganizer.

Re: how to get these effects?

I just found out these are actually from this year's adobe achievement award's winner, Sean Teegarden.
here is the link, http://www.adaagallery.com/winners/441.php.

here is what he say,
"Tools used
Using the file's Red, Green, and Blue Channels, I found which color contained the most contrast that enhanced the important details. I copied the information and pasted it into new layers. I used a series of blend modes and layer masks to bring out striking detail and retain great value and color. I employed burn/dodge layers to emphasize shadows and finally employed sharpening and blurring to make every little "Character" jump off the page."

but i still dont' get it..

I'm new here but I'll jump right in!

When I see this kind of processing I always want to tear my hair out (which is almost totally gone now).

Another artist, Joey Lawrence, that is actually offering tutorials on this can be found here.

The particular techniques I'm interested in are the "multiply" photos...

Go down to your local Barnes & Nobel and pick up a copy of Photoshop User. Extensive tute in there on the grunge look.

interesting techniques, but do you think they're worth $250?

Re: how to get these effects?

I bought Joeys DVD.. Save your money because it does not tell very much at all. Nothing that cannot be found in these forums.
Looks like high contrast masking and sharpening..That is basically i. The images have the impact and that is only enhanced... Take a good shot first than play around..

If all it took was a plug in, everyone would do it and no one would consider it special.
