Green Screen Compositing Techniques

Hey folks,

One thing I have noticed over the past several months, are the numerous ways people work with green screen (Chroma key) compositing; channels, color select, 3rd party software, by hand etc.

What I though might be fun, is for everyone who is interested to grab the same hi-res green screen image (400 PPI, TIFF, 4.6 megs) and create some sort of composite (Your choice, get crazy creative) and share with us what green screen technique you used. I bet we could all learn a thing or two.

Below is a link and preview of a green screen we shot at our studio. This was shot using a chroma key cloth backdrop (Before we switched to foam walls) and the cloth had ripples, but these shouldn't hinder you in working with the image. I have created tons of composites from these 'Ripply' photos.

Hopefully we can get some great participation with this...this could really be informative.

Thanks guys,

Never used 3rd party software. Made a mask from the a channel in lab. Blended the edges with color and multiply layers.

Re: Green Screen Compositing Techniques

FYI, when shooting greenscreen you need to make sure there are no wrinkles and there is continous matching light source throughout the green. The moment you start having various shades of green you deal with potential issues and complications in background removal.
