well i know the shooters who work for Harpers Bazaar and Elle and other fashion mags here -
and it was in fact the man who shoots for Elle how looked at my work and made the comments -
i know that his photos are "Always" retouched for Elle as he told me that -
i know light setups and makeup do a lot and i do it myself -
but i see a look there and i know that this look is from and only from retouching -
i am talking about a good lit image /fashion shot -
its why i asked only about the retouch

yes these images are retouched for the magazines - well in my part of the world anyway as i know the shooters who work for BAzaar and Elle and they told me that the inhouse retouchers do it for them -

Re: Editorial Retouching - how to achieve the look

Images that appear in the Editorial sections of fashion magazines will be "edgy" and dont take the skin too far. Advertising in magazines like Vogue will be more retouched. There is a difference between Editorial and Advertising images even in the same mag. Then if you look at Wonderland, V-Mag, Dazed & Confused vs Vogue, Marie Claire or Glamour the first lot have an edgy style and the latter are more commercial.

i think what he means is color casting, many editorial pics have a desaturated look, with a sepia toning to them.
