Need suggestions and help

I found some 40 + year old slides and decided to see what I could do with them. The slides measure 3/8" x 5/8". I copyied them on my Epson 1660 at 3200 and then tried to get a decent image. I used levels, curves, dodge and burn etc and I seem to have gotten a fairly decent size image from this work. I also used Unsharpen and a high pass filter but it still looks hazy and foggy.

Would appreciate some suggestions as to how to get a clearer image.

Albatross, is the image you posted already edited by you? If so it wouls be better if you posted the unedited scan.
Normally if you want a quality scan, you really need to use a dedicated slide / negative scanner because the reflective flatbed scanners with / withoutadapters do not have the dynamic range or the resolution required for small format film.

Hi albatrosss,

U should use a scanner what has the "digitalice" function or use the neat image or noise ninja software to avoid the grain. I agree with mistermonday we should know the original beacuse what U achieved depends on the original.

Attached is the original as it was scanned. I did however change the resolution of 3200 to 250 to get it a wee bit larger than 3/8" x5/8".

Image->Adjust- Auto Colour, Image->Adjust->Levels, increasing the midtones, Filter->Other->Highpass in overlay mode

No. I copied the slide as is and then cropped it using Photoshop.

Used the first original.. Only did levels Then ran it through Noiseware a few times and masked off what I didn't want and kept what looked good each time (Did a Select all, copy merge, paste, copy the new layer passed the new layer through Noiseware and masked it off .. then did it all again till It looked OK to me)
and took a lil glare off the glasses

Thank you for your reply. I have a friend that was giving 400 slides. I've never worked with them, so I was curious. Most of the things I've read said to remove the cardboard. Randy didn't and it was black. But then, he's great with video and not with photoshop.

To sharpen, I used the green channel.
All that work & the results almost equal to auto adjustments.

Hi albatross,

Straightened image, cropped image (although if you want the table etc., keep it there). Levels adjustment layer, individual channels. Merged, duped layer set mode to screen, used mask to highlight the people. Duped layer, ran through neat image. Duped layer, mode to overlay, use high pass, masked out background. Used high pass again, but only on the peoples faces.
