Pin Up Retouch.. :)

Hello all! I haven't been around in ages.. But I wanted to poke my head in on this one. I'd love to see some others go at this photo to give it a retro/pin up look. The eternal question! This is only one version that I just did.. You can see the backdrop issue is.. an issue.. Haha. I would love constructive crit and technical pointers.

FULL SIZE ORIGINAL IMAGE: http://www.auroraskye.com/photos/pinup-4022.jpg

What I would like is it to look a bit more sketchy/paint like.. but I think that will probably take a long time, because I'd have to do it bit by bit.. But, overall, I feel the colors/etc have a pin up type feel.

Thanks all, looking forward to your replies.

Re: Pin Up Retouch.. :)

You've done a very nice job on the model and the background should be the easy part. I did this in about 1 minute.

I picked a nice soft watercolor brush, set a light/dark combination of soft blue for foreground and background layers. Fiddled with Color Dynamics of the brush in the brush palette and painted away on a new layer. Put the background below the model, and set the model's layer to multiply. Masked the background layer and deleted any spillage of the blue color into the model. Added a little vertical motion blur to the background.

Variations might be to add texture the brush, or us a chalk brush.. Up to you and the posibilities are endless.

Re: Pin Up Retouch.. :)

You use the Smudge Tool to "paint".

Re: Pin Up Retouch.. :)

emilylt87, The smudge technique is also outlined here:
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/pho...photoshop.html

auroraskye, Nice photograph.. (she does have that angelic look, hexi)

Constructive Crit... Get an Iron.. OR weight the ends of the "Backdrop" and/or "ground cloth" and pull taunt.. use clothes pins tied to a weight at strategic locations to remove wrinkles..

Here are my versions:

Re: Pin Up Retouch.. :)

Here is my try,

adjusted pic, changed color of gown, added bolder makeup for pin up look.
used variation of trimoon sketch, changed blending mode to hard light, ran through impressionist filter soft detailed sketch, masked out woman with dry brush.

sorry its not more detailed, was just trying different ways to try and get the look.

Re: Pin Up Retouch.. :)

Thank you all for the beautiful replies. Butch did you use the smudge tool as well on yours?

As far as my background.. The hanging part wasn't too bad, I went over it with steam from the iron but I could not keep my bottom part in any kind of order I really would LOVE a seamless roll of paper.. but lol I don't know how that would do in our game room..

Thanks again for all the replies.. I love this community! So many talented people..
