Wow, 77 views and not one response to my thread. Doesn't anybody know of his work? He seems to be a big deal in Europe. A photographer I met through Model Mayhem says it's the best retouching DVD he has ever seen. Someone out there has to know of him.

It's hard to tell. the page you posted is nothing special. His portrait is not so good,(look at his skin tone feet, face, arms). i don't see any exemple of his work. and i don't know him. so for me it's a big NO.

Re: Guy Gowan

Yep, I've met him a few times over the last few years, been to a few of his seminars, and seen his cosmetic retouching and workflow dvd's. He's been employed by Adobe doing short seminars on the Adobe stand at big photographic shows like Focus on Imaging, and he's fairly well known in the UK. Depends on your existing knowledge as to how much you'll learn. I've incorporated a few of his cosmetic retouching techniques, or variations of them, into work I do on a daily basis. Didn't pick up much from the workflow dvd, but that doesn't mean you won't.

Guy Gowan is a very skilled and I like his way of retouching, where you basically do lots of stuff with Channels and calculations and less with selection tools. Sadly the website address you posted didn't work for me.

Yeah, that' the thing. I keep on hearing about how great this guy is but can't seem to find anything he has done. I googled him and came up with some different sites but they seem to be all just selling his DVD's, no work.

Re: Guy Gowan

Why not send him an email and ask to see some?
Or give him a call?

Re: Guy Gowan

I've seen the guy a bunch of times here in Dublin and I have to say I really like his methodology. I first saw him about four years ago, got sent along by my boss at the time, didn't expect to learn that much...how wrong I was! I think in recent times I've learnt more from hanging around this site and reading the likes of Katrin Eismann but as a place to start his techniques and ideas are really impressive. I put my decision to stop horsing around with PS and learn how to use it properly (whatever properly means..) down to the first hour of his 'Retouching Workflow' seminar. It truly was the turning point for me.

I'm not sure what his background is, I've heard he's a retoucher, a photographer, a printer, a drum scanner operator and a pre-press man. I think whichever is true 99% of his work now is giving seminars/educating people - don't think he has a retouch 'portfolio'.

Re: Guy Gowan

I have his cosmetic techniques dvd. I love the workflow; Its seems a little convoluted at first glance, but once you get the hang of it its great. Much stress on the importance of non destructive editing and using channels to create selections; making retouching applications proportional instead of flat

Re: Guy Gowan

i have only seen the cosmetic techniques one, and it is by far the best retouching dvd i've seen. his approach is very organic, and just made sense. by no means a comprehensive look at retouching, but very well worth it. the only retouching dvd i've ever been excited about

Re: Guy Gowan

hi all, guy has recently formed a new website http://www.guygowan.com where if you join as a member you will have access to his resources, actions and workflow settings. He has just started to upload resources that are not even on the dvd's, (like his hdr technique) and from my information i believe he will update all of the processes from the dvd on his website.

i have noticed a considerable improvement not only from the initial images that i have taken but also the ability to retouch in an non-destructive way in a reduced time of mere minutes then hours of a usual retouch process. As a university student this is an invaluable resource and i recommend this to anyone and everyone.

As a year has gone by since the last post about his website, I'm curious to hear more opinions on the value of membership to his site.
I just recently visited his site for the first time and I have to say, I've never had a workflow like he demonstrates (i.e. an action for every type of enhancement and correction)

Just curious...

Re: Guy Gowan

I saw your post a week ago when I came here wondering about Guy. I have an early version of his Cosmetic Techniques DVD and wondered what he's been up to recently.

From the looks of his web site it appears he's on the road doing his workshops. His site apparently suffers as a result. Since nothing's dated it's hard to judge what's current.

From the lack of replies here it's also apparent he's not created anything that's grabbing the attention on this side of the big pond.
