Agreed, I think there is a lot of sophisticated use of compositing, HDR and CGI. How he applies those methods is the secret.

His secret isn't CGI... he tells people that he is a CGI artist. His secret is in his application of use of the CGI.

isnt that sort of an oxymoronic statement? The jumbo shrimp claims he's not small in a really big loud voice too

unless I read you wrong. Are you saying that he doesnt use cgi, but hes a cgi artist?

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

He DOES use CGI but how he implements the CGI work in to a natural photograph is the secret.

His images are not pure CGI they are mixtures of photography and CGI.

So what I'm saying is that it is no secret that Christian Schmidt uses CGI. The secret is how he takes the model from CGI land and puts it on top of a photograph in Photoshop and seamlessly makes a flawless photograph.

FOR EXAMPLE - see attached image.

The boats and probably the warehouse are CGI... but obviously the people standing are not CGI (I wouldn't think). How he seamlessly stitches the people into the piece is amazing.

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

The same goes with this piece. The architecture I would assume is CGI. The same with outside or at least the outside is a natural photograph and is a composite.

How he fits and lights the people in this shot amazes me. I mean look at their reflection on the floor.

He then, mayyybe, applies the AIM profile after everything has been layered together. But that is insignificant compared to how this whole piece is put together.
