Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Hi everybody.

I have been reading this thread. Every body is looking for the AIM profile, but noboy knows where. I have sent the profile to many people who asked to me by pm.

I am a little bit bussy right know. And sometimes is really difficult to atend to every body who is asking for the profile, so:

Has somebody a rapidshare account, or something similar to upload the profile. If yes, let me know it and I will send to you the profile and you can upload it and post here the link.

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

I saw some of Christian Schmidt's work in a post production companies portfolio when I was in Hamburg a while ago and they where absoulutely breathtaking.
How does he do it? well he's very talented for starters,he uses 10x8 cameras for a lot of the shots I saw together with drum scans and finally the images are perfectly retouched. Some of his images do indeed have cgi in them but the cars etc are added to his background plates.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Simon

Really good reading to know some new approaches... But, well, the aim technique does not work for me, nothing close to the guy's pure images... Or I missed something...

No I don't think you have missed anything.
As you can see from my post above no single filter or profile will magically make your images look this way it's a combination of things but the very detailed large format photography is a big ingredient.
Cheers,
Simon

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Nice to see a few people still following Christian's work, he has a few new images on his website, amazing work from capture to finish.

My attempt at simulating some of his landscape work, shot recently in the Coromandel and Wellington coasts of New Zealand.

Started with one well exposed image, made basic corrections for colour and contrast, slightly lightening the image. Then run the AimRGB action, bump the curve from 25 upto 35, then a coloured gradient map set to softlight. Next a copy of the Blue Channel, set to softlight with the Manny Sharpen action run on this layer, which is then masked for the sea/islands only. Image is then finished with another gradient map. More experimenting is needed though I think to nail details and colour...
