Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

I'm not sure where you can find the AIM profile but here is another method to achieve a similar look:

1.
Make adjustment layer type > Channel Mixer > Select "Monochromatic > Set Red = 0%, Green = 0%, Blue = 100% - OK

Set that layer's mode to Luminosity.

2.
Make adjustment layer type > Channel Mixer > Select "Monochromatic > Set Red = 0%, Green = 100%, Blue = 0% - OK

Set that layer's mode to Screen at 80% opacity.

3.
Make adjustment layer type > Channel Mixer > Select "Monochromatic > Set Red = 100%, Green = 0%, Blue = 0% - OK

Set that layer's mode to Multiply at 50% opacity.

Profile conversion: Convert, Apply, Convert, Apply, dupe, multiply, blend if, curves.

Result is too warm - Color balance layer: -15, -2, +55

Walls are too dark - Levels layer: 0, 1.25, 236 (input)

Still too warm - Curves layer: R midpoint 128/132, B midpoint 128/113 (Output/Input)

Highlights blown out - Dupe b/g, levels within duped layer, 0, 232 (output)

Shadows too green - H/S layer, Greens -100 saturation, all colors with the exception of blue and cyan pulled down somewhat, overall saturation -23.

Done.

All the numbers stated above are the exact numbers from the layers in my PSD. They work for this image (and by work I mean got me the result I was looking for), but they'd be completely different for a different image. I arrived at each value by seeing what I didn't like about the current state of my image and moving sliders and bending curves until it looked "right." This may not be the fastest, easiest, or even the best way to go about it, but that's the approach that I often use and I've found that it often gets me the results I want.

Best of luck.
Thnx !!
I tried that and heres what I got !
not exactly the same procedure tho... I didnt understand some part of yours :/

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

As far as I can make out there is no special magic in the AIM profile it is just a Triniton Linear gamma. The precise make up of the profile might be important for some uses but we are using it as a sledge hammer to lighten and desaturate our image. So if you can't find AIM on the web you can brew your own. It is not difficult but take care that you save it as per these instructions you don't want it to become the default working space.

In photoshop click edit and select colour settings. A large dialog opens showing your working colour space. Click the drop down and select custom RGB. It is usually the very top option.

Another box opens. Rename Ie to ChristianSchmidt change the gamma. You can use 1.00 but photoshop will go all the way to 0.75 which is even lighter. Change primaries to Triniton its a menu option under the drop down and click OK.

Nearly done.

The box closes and you are back at the main dialog. Click the drop down along side the RGB working space and select save RGB from the menu. Save your profile then cancel - NOT save the main dialog.

You can now assign your profile and follow the other instructions in this thread.

Why doesnt somebody call Christian Schmidt up and just ask him. His number is on his website. That way there will be no more speculation

I was half joking when I posted that we should call him, but if you really are, start off light, maybe ask him "Boxers or briefs?" try that as an ice breaker.

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

It wouldn't do a load of good calling him considering he doesn't do his own retouching. But I'm sure any info from him would be constructive to the process.

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Hi, I'm fairly new to this community, and was wondering where I can get AIM RGB color space. The link to the website I'm supposed to find it in doesn't work.

Thanks a lot for your responses

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

I finally got to play with AIM profile... it looks great, however I noticed it does not work with lower resolution pins... or pics where there too much noise on the shadows/dark areas....
someone else noticed that?
