Smile How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

well i know that this look is not that special as one may think, but i'm especially intersted in how he gets so sharp images that are so super clean and especially white.
white white white.
how do i get a white look like this (dont come up with "pitch the curves, noop!)

http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...mel_1_V001.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...o8_op_V003.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo..._escalator.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...o7_op_V003.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...e_chair_op.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...ed_cart_op.jpg

and my two favourites ever (not so white, i know)
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...o1_op_V003.jpg
http://www.christianschmidt.com/uplo...o5_op_V003.jpg

i hope i don't underchallange you
(i just hope, that it's not just plain highkey :p)

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Very nice pictures....i would probably have to guess that its some major lighting trick....i wish i could develop some radiant pictures....but i have nothing but a digital camera lol...no lights or anything

i would like to know how those are done...if not by lighting techniques

Saby really like your result and this sort of style, but I don't understand your workflow ( sounds very technical) could you explain it a bit more, like is it done in ps ? or is it some other software

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Hi Palms,

of course I've heard about it here for 1st.
this is the thread:http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/pho...ma-1-00-a.html

after to get this rgb space - the link in the thread - U just have to use the assign profil command from the edit menu.

Sabys comment discribes how to get the picture superclean but how
did christian Schmidt get this white look.

Markus Hintzen, Michael Schnabel, Christian Schmidt they all got a high contrast, white Look.
Anybody knows how to get this look?

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

Great result, but i don't get it.
Multiply darkens my image, and the "blend if gray" produces very little change.

did U lighten the image before OR after that convert (not assign) it back to normal (adobe) rgb space?

Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

or you could try this..
open
duplicate background, name it 'light'
set this layer 'light' to screen.
duplicate layer 'light' and set blending mode to between 60 and 100 % to suit

then a little fine tuning to finish?

thanks to saby for his generous help on this topic!!!

now it's up to us to use this technique without just trying to copy all the photographers that are already on that train

Question Re: How to: "Christian Schmidt" Look

This is really, really interesting!

I just realised that you have the possibility to develop raws applying a linear curve.
This is the case in most raw developping software like adobe cs raw or leaf capture.
This seems to lead to similar results, if you do the multiply inverse and gamma thing.

I am not sure if - physically - this is the same thing:
Applying a linear gamma and developping with a linear curve instead of medium contrast.

I wonder if it is a good idea to apply a linear profile, that is not somehow related to the photo. As far as I understood ColorManagement, profiles always should refer to the camera/scanner/monitor
To me this seems to be a method that works somehow, but might cause some unwanted effects, especially if you do the applying/converting thing more than one time.

I found out that all the generic camera-profiles and the flextight input (scanner) profile
show little or no visible colour difference, but lighter with less contrast if applied.
But what happens to the colours?

Can anybody bring some clearence please?
