if no blur - how to get smooth skin?

right, i understand d&b w/ adjustment layers for tone and color... also healing for spots and red patches.

so i have normal skin texture and i want to keep it in there, healing is too much, and blur, well thats clearly a bad habit and i don't want to do that anymore - what technique to you use?

skin

D&B isn't just for tone and color. It is a useful detail-retaining way to remove blemishes as well. Granted, it's not always the best tool for the job, but often it gets very pleasing results while retaining skin texture.
