Newbie Help! Blue GUM in mouth hard to remove!

i really like this picture i took for my sister but she had that stupid gum in her mouth and i didn't happen to notice until after we got home and i started looking at the 208 pictures i took lol. so anyway, i've tried the healing brush....didn't work, i tried to clone the other side of her mouth and use a section only large enough to cover the gum but that didn't look right either. can any of you show me a better way to do this. It's probably really simple but for whatever reason...i'm just not getting it lol. thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Help! Blue GUM in mouth hard to remove!

Hi:

I just took a few minutes and gave it a quick clone. I cloned the tongue just to the right of the gum and covered most of the gum. I then brought the opacity of the clone down to about 20% and recloned so that the edges of the clone weren't as noticeable. I then used the black from the right side of the mouth to clone on the left side using about 10% opacity and using several strokes to gradually get rid of the blue gum. I then added a bit to the teeth on the lower left side of the mouth where the gum was covering it. It took about five minutes. With more time, it would look better.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, that looks good. I don't know how much experience you have with the clone tool, but there's more to it than just selecting a source and cloning. You need to be aware of the best opacity, the direction in which to move the mouse while cloning to get the best effect... it's as much an art as any other aspect of Photoshop.
