Good morning/good day/good evening/,
Expert in all aspects of computers except photo restoration.
I have used paint shop to colourise line drawings etc in the past, but now have the use of photoshop. I have an old b & w wedding photo of my parents taken 60 yrs ago, and have removed the dust, scratches etc and enhanced the photo.The 60th wedding anniversary is coming up in two weeks, which means I have two weeks to get to grips with photoshop and getting colour into the photo(I still have to work out the actual colours of the materials). Can anyone suggest an on line tutorial to get me started. I used to learn fast, but as it is my parents 60th wedding, some of you just might guess that I am getting near that number my self, and some of the little grey cells are disappearing.

Rooster, welcome to RetouchPRO! Gradient Map command and Gradient Map Adjustment layers are excellent and powerful ways to colorize B&W photos. I do not have my link list with me but there a tons of tutorials out htere if you just google Colorize and Photoshop Gradient Map.

Here's the tutorial I use to colorize photos. It's not the "easiest" method, but if you can stick with it, the results are amazing. (if you click on the links below my name, you can see some some colorized photos I've done, using this method)

The above tutorial from worth1000, I personally found to be the best, that's the good news, the bad news is as Vikki said you will have to stick with it, so if you are looking for quick colourization this tutorial is not for you. You will need a lot of time patience and hard work if you want results using worth1000 tutorial. I've also modified the tutorial to satisfy my need, but I still have a lot of mountain to climb when it come to colourizing black and white photos.

Thank you all for the replies. It will probably take the two weeks to finish the photo. My father was in the Merchant Navy and his best man was an officer as well, so I have to find the correct colour for those uniforms. Coupled with the rest of the missing colours I guess it will be an uphill struggle. I have had a quick look at the suggested tutorial and will run through the steps with my photo. The only difference is that I have 5 people to fix. I think I might need to ask the old folks what colours the various bits (hair, eyes etc) were.
