High fashion retouch

Hi all,

I'm wondering if someone can help me out with achieving a couple of looks that are often seen in high fashion editorials/campaigns. I'm working on digital files, so do not have the luxury of shooting film and have to replicate the look in photoshop.

The first is a a kind of fuzzy look that looks to me like a slightly soft image with a certain kind of grain. It is used by many high fashion photographers, especially Paolo Roversi.

The second is a pastel, peachy look in which the colours seem faded and bleached out. (pinched these pics from another thread)

I have tried messing around with selective colour, desaturating etc but don't seem to be finding the right recipe. If anyone has an answer i'd be greatful.

I am pretty certain the second look was shot on film. Something like Portra - which a lot of fashion photographers use.
I've tried emulating this with photoshop. You can get something like it by reducing contrast and playing with the curves tool, or using alien skin exposure to add grain.

I've never got anywhere as close though as I have using real film.

For the "peachy" look, you might try desaturating slightly, then adding a color balance layer. To the shadows, add some blue (somewhere around 10ish) and some cyan (a little less than blue). Leave the mids. For the highlights, add some yellow (again, about 10) and some red (a little less than yellow). This tends to give you that kind of look.

Paolo Roversi shoots 8x10 inch polaroid with a large format camera - that is a big part of his "look". Hard to emulate that with digital.
