Just don't do it! Natural skin texture is so great so don't ruin it!!
I salute you I've seen so many ugly shots in magazines where they turned the model into a piece of plastic. I would die before any of my photos go that way. Maybe I should pitch you work for just making that statement

Arrogance is not a virtue I admire.

Anyone recognise this ?

Re: High End Retouching = not....

I have always believed if you want to know something bad enough, you will find a way. All my Photoshop experience is self taught, research and books. And to anyone out there, there is no magical secret. It is just hard work and thinking of how to accomplish a task with the tools you have. That is what makes people great at their job, their ability to improvise and try new things. If someone gave a brush to someone and explained how Da Vinci did his art and how, they would never get close to what he accomplished. Not to mention art is subjective, but not the execution of the final product.

Many contributors have given that direction if people pay attention to the forums on this website.

Layers, Masks, Levels/Curves, Dodge and Burn, and creative intent with proper execution. It also helps to have a great image.

Programs to help retouch are just another tool to help the artist, It doesn't create an artist.

I have a long way to go before i reach that level, but trying is the most important part.

Re: High End Retouching = not....

Frome some point of view i understand Bianca. Maybe she (he?) hasn't got enough time to make a tutorial. Or maybe she doesn't want to share her's methods, becouse of any reason. Still, if someone have a time to pos here, she/he should eventually find few minutes to write just few things for start. If one is about to get to better result, there is not much needed to start digging... just a sign where to go, which dirrection. Ofcourse, one could say, its not enought, but as i have noticed... if i write to someone, that he should 4 example:
-create luminescense mask
- make levels on it
- add adjustements layer with mask of luminescence layer
and stuff like that, some will say it is not enought, some will start to search wtf is luminescence mask, and very few will already know, and maybe the only thing for them will be "create adjustements channel with a kind of parameters to get some result". Its all about trying, and from other point, its all about giving tips... ones that make somebody start to think and try. Not too much, but also not to little .

Re: High End Retouching = not....

I'm glad someone finaly made that clear =_= .. when I post retouches some people think they can do it better with blur but it's always horible.

I like your portfolio, the animations are great.

Re: High End Retouching = not....

To my point of view every single image have his own process, blur or not blur this is the question but even Lee Varis yes the same one who was named in Bianca's link http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=286223. He uses a method in Lesson 13: Rebuilding skin and he do blur very heavy blur on the skin prove of this you can find it in the next link http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=600

I know blur is unacceptable in many cases but some times you can go with it. All depends what you trying to achieve on you image.

Peace for everyone !!!

Best of luck to everyone!!!

Re: High End Retouching = not....

Blah blah blah blah. If it looks good, then it is. If it doesn't it's because you stink or are trying to do it some fast way. If I can't see it, great. But don't try to hide anything. Retouching is supposed to be invisible.

Re: High End Retouching = not....

What's with all the snooty attitudes about techniques?
If it's not blurring, most inhouse retouchers still employ "tricks" to get the job done.

An employer who relies on fulfiling client deadlines to earn profit will not wait for someone to paint each pixel so there's no need to pretend successful retouchers don't have any "shortcuts"... just using computers was considered "inferior" by artists a short time ago.

Any computer tool and filter is technically a "trick" no different than using the blur filter.

If any digital retoucher wants to get all snooty about their "superior" techniques,
This link shows how to create skin textures without any computer tricks at all...lol...

Re: High End Retouching = not....

In the past I was also uses the blur. but now I rarely use the blur. sometime blur needs to smooth the skin but not heavy effect.
