Silver Toning a Black and White pic

I checked through the search to see if anyone has asked this but couldn't find anything:

I've seen quite a few Black and white portrait pics that have an almost silver tone about them. Does anyone know of a plugin capable of doing this.

Strangely enough 9 times out of ten they're always press pictures.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Not familiar with a plugin for it, but have seen it done directly in PS. I'll see if I can dig up the method for you... it's been a while.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic

It's also possible in litho printing to mix a metallic spot colour with black ink
to give a real silver finish.

I have tried to load the gradients but looks like I am getting simply a second set of default gradients. Wonder what am I doing wrong.
Thanks

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic

If you don't mind me asking, and if anyone can offer advice, how do you create a set of gradients and save it as a .grd file? I have over 100 gradients loaded in Photoshop now, many I don't use, so I would like to pick out say a bunch of 30 that I commonly use, and save them as a set. Any help appreciated and sorry for going off topic, but not worth a new thread really.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic

I'm really surprised that there isn't a plugin by adobe for this, or may be the answer is to switch back to large format photography and hand tone it.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic

I think its just a matter of good lighting on the original photo (pretty low-key)then retouching it, bringing up then mid-tones whilst still keeping the shadow detail.enhancing the highlights but making sure they dont blow-out.

It's not a plug-in, every image needs to be treated differently.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic

Hardboiled,
Thanks for linking to an image like what you desired. That helps.
Hopefully, the post will pull in some others that have a workflow that produces that effect. I'm sure one's out there.
While certainly a different setup can do it, so can PS. I just hate to speculate as to the best way to achieve it.
