Silver Toning a Black and White pic I checked through the search to see if anyone has asked this but couldn't find anything: I've seen quite a few Black and white portrait pics that have an almost silver tone about them. Does anyone know of a plugin capable of doing this. Strangely enough 9 times out of ten they're always press pictures. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic Not familiar with a plugin for it, but have seen it done directly in PS. I'll see if I can dig up the method for you... it's been a while.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic It's also possible in litho printing to mix a metallic spot colour with black ink to give a real silver finish.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic I have tried to load the gradients but looks like I am getting simply a second set of default gradients. Wonder what am I doing wrong. Thanks Peter

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic If you don't mind me asking, and if anyone can offer advice, how do you create a set of gradients and save it as a .grd file? I have over 100 gradients loaded in Photoshop now, many I don't use, so I would like to pick out say a bunch of 30 that I commonly use, and save them as a set. Any help appreciated and sorry for going off topic, but not worth a new thread really.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic I'm really surprised that there isn't a plugin by adobe for this, or may be the answer is to switch back to large format photography and hand tone it.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic I think its just a matter of good lighting on the original photo (pretty low-key)then retouching it, bringing up then mid-tones whilst still keeping the shadow detail.enhancing the highlights but making sure they dont blow-out. It's not a plug-in, every image needs to be treated differently.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic Hardboiled, Thanks for linking to an image like what you desired. That helps. Hopefully, the post will pull in some others that have a workflow that produces that effect. I'm sure one's out there. While certainly a different setup can do it, so can PS. I just hate to speculate as to the best way to achieve it.

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic Anytime. The thing is there's 100's ( that's not an exaggeration ) of people all looking to get the same effect. yet no one has a defined answer. This guy has the right idea, BUT, it's using 3rd part software Animation Master. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutor...tutorial_id=63 Not sure it's actually being sold anymore. But in the mean time I'm going to have a play around with Maxon Cinema 4D, and Maya to see if they can tune a B&W pic, and I'll still keep searching. As someone else suggested slighty earlier, We may well all be chasing rainbows and the the real trick to it is getting the lighting right in the first place. But we're all lazy so no harm in looking. Here's another good example http://www.flickr.com/photos/23555495@N00/169223445/

Why dont you post-up one of your images that you want to do this to? Also I think that guy is using HDR. Last edited by mayday; 06-06-2008 at 06:01 AM. |

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic I hadn't got a specific pic in mind I wanted to apply this to as most of the work I do is around boring family pics. Would want to waste time glamourising those. That didn't take long. According to this website. This is how it's done( I haven't tried it yet but will by the end of the day I hope ) http://www.dphotojournal.com/photosh...tallic-effect/

Re: Silver Toning a Black and White pic Thats a solarization technique. that's not what your after. Its good photography probably some HDR and then a fair amount of retouching theres not a quick fix.
