Groovy up this photo...

This is a friend of mine on the keys and his band. I take the photos, but nothing near professional level. I set my camera to bracket (+/-.7). Hoepfully one will be the right balance and actually in focus.

The attached image is the one he has decided to use. I selected the members and their instruments and then played games inverting and messing with greyscale or texture or glowing edges...

From a technical angle, how can I reduce the brightness of the lights on the establishment's placard? Otherwise, what would you do to funkify this image?

Re: Groovy up this photo...

mrthallid, I will worrk on it but if you have bracketed shots I would post them somewhere like webshots and give us the link. We can take thos 3 or 5 shots and make one great shot and get rid of the blown area easily as well.

Re: Groovy up this photo...

I appreciate the input.
The entire set is on snapfish, and I can share specific images if you'd like. Part of my problem with the set was lack of tripod and the members move around a fair bit, so not a lot are as clear as I'd like.

Re: Groovy up this photo...

I like your second image, with the background going toward a sepia tone and the group still in color. That's cool.
I also like OlBaldy's direction... headed toward some painting effect maybe. You could even do the background that way and less on the group.
Yes, while bracketing seems nice, if the images are going to move on you it is not as useful. You're better off taking few shots prior to the start, quickly upload to a laptop and judge the exposure. Then adjust as needed. Otherwise, grab a camera that can shoot in RAW so you can adjust all that later. (You can still do much of the same if PS with JPG's, but depending on what the band expects and if you are getting paid or not... you may want to think about the RAW.)
