Robert Alvarado look

First I hope I placed this in the correct forum. I am new here. I have been inspired by this artist and have been working for over a year to get the same look to my photographs but have been very unsuccessful. There are several things I notice about each photograph.
1. The images are flat in color and have a mannequin look to them with no light refection on places like the face
2. All of the facial details are missing yet it does not look flat
3. They eyes, lips, clothes and especially the hair pops out and is full of bright colors and is the only thing in the photo that is shiny.

I have been researching his work for a long time now and think he uses software, filters and plug-ins mainly to get this look. I do not think he spends much time smudging and such because he can do a photo shoot one day and by that night produce 4 photos.

He will not reveal his secrets but is a super nice guy. So I cam here in hopes that you could help me. If you can reproduce this work will you please explain how you did it. I am not as interested in his pin-up as I am his head shots but they all have the same look.

First I will give you a link to his sight so you can see all of his work. Next I will give you examples of his starting point and the finished look. The first example starts with just a picture of the model and not in pose with hair and make up done but the finished results is one of my favorites and is exactly the look I am going after.

(WARNING: some of his images contain nudity on his site)

And last a side by side

So can someone please help me after almost a year my brain is fried and I can not think anymore. I need fresh eyes looking at it.

Thank You,
Perry Fletcher

Re: Robert Alvarado look

I've been a long time admirer of his work and would love to know as well. To me, they look half painted.

Re: Robert Alvarado look

The first example of the "Before" and "After" doesn't look like the same image. The "before" shot may be how the model looked before makeup.
His techniques are similar to those of Jill Greenburg or Dave Hill. Look up their retouching techniques and you can achieve something similar.
