yea, read the threads but I would NOT waste the money. Didn't tell me anything. He's got a pretty spiffy camera though.

Not worth the money! Don't buy. If it were $49 or maybe $69, but definitely not $199. Basic photoshop stuff...as wtowle said...he shoots with a great camera.

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

thanks for the posting here, I'm a retoucher and have good hand on the tools and techniques. Also I did the few courses on lynda.com for basic and advance photoshop retouching. I thought that this new video course will give me some extra skill but I was hasitating to take the risk of $ 195.

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

you probably could pick up a few little points, but nothing that would blow you away...like I said, this video is way over priced for what you get. The quality of the picture he is working on is outstanding. A lot of healing tool. Nothing special about the skin...like I said texture of the skin was there from the beginning due to the quality of the shot and the lighting. I'm sure there is something else you could buy with you $200. Chris is you are out there...what happened to the video you were going to make?

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

Relax Skydog. It is in the works, just horribly delayed. I am getting like 2 hours sleep a day just trying to finish retouching projects I have, not to mention retouching for the company I work for.
It will be done, and yes it is delayed, and yes I feel bad about it and should have kept my hands off the keyboard instead of announcing it. Don't forget I am doing everything on my own, including distribution and burning copies, etc.
But there will no longer be a bunch of stuff on calculations, or apply image. There might be some Gradient Mapping stuff. BUt all in all its just going to be skin/Beauty work with 3 maybe 4 different models, all different in their needs.

Chris

And I really want to get it right, because who likes complaints?
Some of this posted to my blog.

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

Hey Chris I had q question for you and maybe other retouchers.
I have been recently having to retouch long hours and I was wondering how you all over come the dreaded Dizzy's from looking at a monitor all day for several days in a row.
The other day I actually felt sick from being on the computer all day and I thought, How the heck do retouchers get over that and what can you do to prevent it.
I also fortunately had time to finish the project but I know many who just cannot stop as the client wants or need everything yesterday, Literally!
What do you guys do in those case or how do you prevent getting the Headaches or in my case dissiness.
I have never seen this mentioned anywhere.
Thanks for any insight

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

I just look away from the monitors and look at the far wall in this dimly lit room every now and then to adjust my eyes, or just take a walk around the block. I used to mix retouching with cigarettes a lot, but I got rid of that habit. I've never had a headache, knock on wood, so I'm not sure if this will prevent you from getting one.

Snook

I tend to do as Pixel Monkey does. I get up and walk around every 15 minutes or so. Pretty much anything to look away from the monitor.
Never had dizziness. What's the refresh rate on your monitor?

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

I also get up and walk around and rest my eyes. My optometrist told me to look outside at natural daylight every hour or so... yeah haha. Anyway I have another problem: I was trying to push trough a huge project and my thumb starting hurting (I use a wacom stylist) by the third day my thumb was quite swollen. I have been to the doc who suggested I where a brace. That only seem to make it worst. After a few months of working this way it was not only swollen now it was bent and somewhat painful. I then went to an ortho hand specialist who gave me cortizone in the sheath of the tendon and said if two rounds don't work surgery will be required. That was two weeks ago and that has help somewhat. I am also going for physical therapy this weekend. Has anyone else come up with any repetitive stress problems and if so any suggestions?
Thanks!
~Nancy

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

Thanks everyone and maybe I should have started a new topic....??
:+}
CHairs seem to be a theme of topic also..:+}
Chris how do I find my refresh rate?
I have a Cinema Display 30" and and iMac 24 inch alum. and a 20 in cinema display...
I also used to smoke and that would get me away from the computer, but I too quit and can be locked on the computer for several hours with out leaving.. between retouching, editing, sending answering e-mails and searching out the web for new looks and tutorials, it consumes all my time..:+]
Internet is definitely the addiction of the 2000's...:+}

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

turn down the screen's brightness (which will affect which colors you can see on your monitor, not good for doing art in my opinion)
get more adequate lighting in your room, sit farther away from the monitor...

Re: High-end Industry Retouching Techniques Video

Should be the same as any basic OH&S for computer users, take regular breaks and get up, walk around and stretch. Make sure you look away from the screen and focus on something in the distance every 20-30 mins.

Being a smoker helps, I find when working long hours and big projects I usually hit save, go for a smoke and maybe grab a coffee every 1- 1.5 hours.
