Re: Compositing

Looks pretty good... Not sure if he is too big for the area he is in in the scene?
I often have troubles with the same thing.. have to ask opinions..
Been looking at Bert Monroy's site where he has some amazing free tutorials on compositing if you have not seen them.. a must!

Supposedly there is a way to line up the motorcycle with the wall an kind of get a scaling reference..
If I find out more I will post it here...
Very dave hillish...:+]
DId you use the stpe from the new Dave Hill post?:+}

Re: Compositing

Zogdart,
I like it, you did a nice job creating motion with the background.
I do have 3 thoughts. First is I don't really see the movement in the bricks in the street.
Anoher is that the background is sooo busy it's dizzying, maybe crop some of that out. Last thing is that the cutout has a bit too much blur around the edges, however this could be from reducing size to post. All in all avery nice composite, and very fun image.

Re: Compositing

I haven't check Bert Monroy's site...Will do...
I did not use the dave hill tutorial...I just did a lot of manipulation....10 hour's or so....
Now i have to be more meticulus and develop a workfloow so i can reapeat it!!!!
I will defenetly give that tutorial a try!

Ther is movement's on th background image i did a motion blur on it...perhap's i could give it wee bit more on the ground.

For the cut out blur...well that's me... i just did a quick blur (5px) anround the subject with feather (10pix?)....I wasn't too sure if was going to leave the blur only on his back.

Thank's for the comment.

Re: Compositing

I would maybe bring down the highlights on the background a little. It would give a bit more separation for the main subject and not distract the viewer's attention. Something with that blur gets me as well. You may want to try blurring the heck out of it, or not as much, or using a different type(more directional) of blur. The edge of the shadow behind the bike seems darker and a little too sharp as it loops around. You may want to add a little bit of shadow for the spare tire as well. Otherwise, looks pretty good.

Re: Compositing

Thanks Zogdart, I'm glad you saw my post as helpful advice since you never really know how it comes across when you aren't in person looking at someone's image. Building composites can be great fun but doing it right takes a lot of work as you know. The main parts of selling the illusion are light, shadow, camera angle(perspective), color balance, etc.. Then there are some other techniques to complete the overall construction such as overlays, textures, selective coloring and sharpening.

The Eismann books are really good. I may actually have something coming out in a few months and if you're interested I'll let you know.

Re: Compositing

Just a simple question on composition from me... Why is the scooter going out of frame instead of entering from the left?

When I first looked at the picture my eyes went to the empty space behind the scooter.. I think maybe because that is where I expected to see the focus of the subject which might even explain the "dizzying" affect
